Supporting Sustainable Building in Oxfordshire

How Jackson Builders Is Supporting Sustainable Building in Oxfordshire at the Oxford Climate Awards 2026

Jackson Builders is sponsoring the Green Building and Design Award at the Oxford Climate Awards 2026. We explain what the award recognises, why sustainable building matters in Oxfordshire, and how architects and designers can submit a nomination.

Sustainability in construction is not a trend. It is a fundamental shift in how we build, and it has been shaping the way we work at Jackson Builders for years. When the opportunity came to sponsor the Green Building and Design Award at the Oxford Climate Awards 2026, it felt like a natural fit for a company that has made sustainable building in Oxfordshire a core part of how it operates.

What Is the Green Building and Design Award?

The Oxford Climate Awards celebrate the people, organisations, and projects across Oxford and Oxfordshire making a genuine contribution to tackling climate change. The awards span categories from energy and transport to food, community action, and the built environment — recognising the breadth of effort required to move the region toward a lower-carbon future.

The Green Building and Design Award honours projects or practices that exemplify sustainable construction and design. Nominees should demonstrate innovation in energy-efficient design, renewable materials, low-impact construction, and eco-friendly building techniques. Crucially, their work should reduce the carbon footprint of structures while still delivering aesthetically pleasing, functional spaces — because sustainability and good design are not in conflict.

It is a category that recognises the full picture: not just the technology or the materials, but the approach, the intent, and the outcome.

If you are an architect, designer, or developer working on projects in Oxford or Oxfordshire that meet that standard, this award was written for you.

Sustainable Building Oxfordshire

Why Sustainable Building in Oxfordshire Matters

The built environment accounts for a significant share of the UK’s carbon emissions. Buildings consume energy through heating, cooling, and lighting. Their construction consumes materials, generates waste, and produces emissions before a single occupant moves in.

Sustainable design addresses this across every stage of a building’s life. At the design stage, it means specifying high-performance insulation, passive solar principles, and materials with lower embodied carbon. During construction, it means minimising waste, sourcing responsibly, and integrating renewable technologies. The result should be homes and commercial spaces that benefit from reduced running costs for years to come.

The good news is that sustainable construction and quality construction are not in conflict. In our experience, buildings designed and built with sustainability in mind tend to be better buildings. They are more comfortable to live and work in, cheaper to run, and more resilient over time.

The regulatory landscape is also moving in one direction. Part L of the Building Regulations tightened in 2021. The Future Homes Standard is coming. Architects and builders who build sustainable expertise now are better placed to deliver compliant, high-quality projects as requirements evolve.

Jackson Builders’ Commitment to Sustainable Construction

Sustainable construction is not a bolt-on for us. It is part of how we build. We won the FMB Sustainable Building Award at the Southern Counties Federation of Master Builders Awards in 2025 [.Kernanderry That recognition reflects years of work, not a single project.

On a practical level, we regularly install air source heat pumps, solar panels, MVHR systems, and high-performance insulation products. On energy-efficient new builds, we routinely achieve EPC A ratings. On commercial projects, we work to BREEAM standards where required, helping our clients meet their own sustainability targets. We also segregate waste on every site and work with a skip partner that operates a recycling centre, reducing the volume of material going to landfill on every build.

“When the Oxford Climate Awards team got in touch about the Green Building and Design Award, I did not need long to think about it. Sustainability has been part of how we build for years. Sponsoring an award that recognises the importance of this holistic approach to construction felt like the right thing to do.” — Charlee Jackson

Why We Are Sponsoring This Award

We asked Daniel Jackson why Jackson Builders chose this award to sponsor.

“Sustainable design does not happen in isolation. It happens when clients, architects, and builders work together toward a shared standard. Sponsoring this award is our way of saying that we value that work and want to see it recognised. And, let’s be honest, we have a stake in this — we want to work with the architects and designers who prioritise sustainable building because these are the projects we want to deliver. When sustainable design is embedded, it’s easier for us to deliver, better for the building, better for the client, and better for the planet.” — Daniel Jackson
